Juxtaposition - Class Exercise 2

This time we have been asked to create analogy for something unfamiliar to something familiar.

Create a passage/writing that describe the concept of “Love” using chili

To love you is like eating a chili,
The 1st time I try it make me jumping all around,
The 2nd time I taste it make me sweating around,
The rest of the time it make me warm all year around.

Create a passage/writing that describe the concept of “Life” using oil lamp

Life is like an oil lamp,
when you run out of fuel,
that's the end of you,
When wind running into you,
that's the end of you too.

Create a passage/writing that describe the concept of “Pain" using ice cream

Pain is like an Ice cream,
the longer you leave it,
the messier it will get.

Create a passage/writing that describe the concept of “Love or Life”
using wallet

Love is like a wallet,
Close to you and you wouldn't worry,
but when it leave you,
It will drive you crazy.

Create a passage/writing that describe the concept of “Love or Life” using cat in rabbit pen.

Life is like a cat in rabbit pen,
You need to change yourself
to fit with surrounding,
but even after changing,
in the end you are still yourself.

Juxtaposition - Class Exercise

In the class we have been given a piece of paper and been asked to write down the list of word on the screen, and to number those each word accordingly.

Then we need to choose random numbers from 0 to 99 and make 3 sets from it. Then replace the number with the word that the number represent from the list that we have made previously.

From there, we need to make a sentence that make sense from the combine word previously

Then we been asked to draw those combine word that will represent those word. Probably this is the hardest part as its hard to make sense from only those 2 word. Mr Radzi said as long the viewer can speak the same sound as the given word, then we have done a good job.

Novelty, Creativity, Innovation and Invention

For this class, it is deep, meaningful and bored but nevertheless important. Mr Mustaffa explaining to us the meaning of novelty, creativity, innovation and invention to us which, before this I kinda clueless of what the differences between those terms.

This class also told us that there is two type of creativity which is personal creativity and social and cultural accepted Creativity which is explained by Mihaly Csikzentmihalyi in his book. From this I understand that just because our personal creativity is not a ground breaking for current culture and society, it doesn't mean we should stop practicing our creativity. It is important for a person to have the feeling of achievement of something new to his/her in whatever aspect of their life and from that it will motivate that person to explore a little deeper than their previous achievement.

Near the end of the class, there this slide that explaining that creative people fall in 4 category , aesthetic organizer, Boundary Pushers, Inventors and Boundary breakers. At this point after self analyzing my abilities and way of thinking, I'm probably fall in boundary pushers as from previous experience, I need someone to come with ideas and from there I able to rapidly develop and expand those ideas. Naturally I never intended to stay as boundary pushers since from my perspective, creativity is a process to break free yourself from the old ways.

Defining Creativity - Reflection

At the end of our first class, we have been asked to publish our comment or thoughts for this first class of Creative Studies in our blog. So after Mr Yap lecturing for nearly 2 hours, what have I learned? Actually, for me it was some sort of enlightenment.

For me, the class was very interesting as it reveals the nature of creativity and the myth behind it. Before this I saw creativity is something out of the world experience or something got to do with extraterrestrial activity and I thought only certain people could achieve that awesomeness but not me. By the end of this class, a thought came into my head "probably I could be like them too".

The class reveal that geniuses and novel ideas is not came in single night, instead they come with constant hard work to improve the ideas. Those people that we considered genius are showed that they work harder than normal people. From my understanding normal people will not work harder without any reason, and I can say that the reason those geniuses work hard on their field is that they in love with it or in other word, they are passionate in their work.

The most interesting part of this class is that, creativity like muscle, the more we use it the better it will shape. Therefore creativity is something we should embrace in our daily life instead of using it in certain environment or needs. As I think more about it there is always room for creativity in our daily task and probably with a touch of creativity, daily mundane task would be much more interesting and this will nourish our creativity further more.

Defining Creativity - Ken Robinson

So in this first class of Creative studies, we have been asked to give our thoughts on Sir Ken Robinson on his speech about schools kill creativity in TED talk. I never heard of him before, nevertheless in his speech he really give me some insight of creativity and the need of it on education system. From his speech there this thing that really struck my mind which is don't be afraid of being wrong or be prepared to be wrong. As he said it “if you are not prepared to be wrong you won't come out anything original” probably I will remember this for the rest of my life.

As far as I remember in my life, I have been thought to be afraid of mistakes where punishment is waiting for each mistake that I made, but I was a hyperactive and stubborn kid, I explore the world on my own pace and on my own way and because of that I broke many “DO NOT” that my parents has setup for me. Do I get punished? Yes I did get the punishment, do I afraid of the punishment? Yes I do. Did I brake the “DO NOT” again? The answer is yes, but the next time I'm doing it I'll make sure my parents won't know about it because I'm afraid of the punishment.

As I grows older and older I'm tired of hearing my parents babbling about my mistakes, and eventually I just follow what ever they said and do whatever they want me to do without breaking any the “DO NOT”. So basically, I am now afraid of breaking rules. If someone setup a rules I will obediently follow it. My thinking process has been confined with rules and stereotype as I have been educated to not standout from the crowd.

Even after all of that, i need to re-learn or unlearn or set my self free from any constraint to nourish my creativity since I'm in this field and I'm planning to stay in it. Luckily human has ability to adept to their surroundings and I'm trying to adept to my creative environment and gradually set my self free from the old constraint.

Still not decide what this blog is about

I just make this today, still not decide what this blog is all about, probably will be about everything, or probably I'll focus it more in certain aspect of my life.
Obviously, I never wrote any blog before, heck I never even wrote a diary before but I do read someone else blog........sometime.
Anyway, I will give it a try and see how comfortable posting your thoughts or daily events for public viewing going to be.
